Every Bride Needs a Groom by Janice Thompson

Small-town girl Katie Fisher is busy planning her fairy-tale wedding. Sure, her boyfriend hasn't managed to pop the question just yet, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't enter a contest in Texas Bride magazine to win the dress of her dreams, right? Anyways, she's sure he'll be getting down on one knee any time now. And a one-of-a-kind designer dress doesn't just fall out of the sky right when you need it.

But when Katie's boyfriend takes a job in another town and breaks up with her - on the very same day she wins her dream dress - her world is turned upside down. Dare she go to Dallas to claim her prize? And will the hunky pro basketball player who runs the beyond-swanky bridal shop - yeah, you read that right - discover her humiliating secret if she does?

Review: This novel is ridiculously sweet. It's like drinking a honey chia while nibbling on pastries.

I don't know what else to say.

I was expecting a light read with this book and maybe a few laughs, but what surprised me about "Every Bride Needs a Groom" was how heart warming this story was. For such a silly concept (seriously, a pro basketball player running a bridal shop?) this book really managed to embrace some meaningful topics and pull my heart into the characters' lives.

Katie Fisher is the perfect, small-town, Southern USA girl. She comes from a good Christian family and is as sweet-as-you-can-be. You can't help but like Katie. She is so genuine and she has such a good heart. Reading a book from her perspective was just… lovely. If you are thinking "nauseatingly sweet", think again…Katie is just a doll. It's pretty much impossible to not love her.

With the help of Katie's family, "Every Bride Needs a Groom" touches on the cost of bitterness and rifts in families, the rewards of love and forgiveness, and even on the interesting relationship of that of an over-protective mother with a youngest son she can't bare to let go of. These themes really brought depth into this sweet tale.

As a recent bride myself, I really enjoyed the wedding subtleties in this story. The author is an ex-wedding planner, and her humorous experience dealing with brides of all sorts really shines through. I had a few good laughs at her nicknames for the different "types" of brides that would come into Katie's bridal shop. So true. And So funny.

Last of all, let's not forget to mention the ridiculous sweetness between Katie and Brady….sigh.

…sigh…

Need a say more?
